FIFA marks the UN International Day for Countering Hate Speech

To mark United Nations International Day for Countering Hate Speech we're reflecting on FIFA’s announcement of the work carried out at FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, protecting players, officials, staff and fans from targeted hate and abuse.

The scale of protection put in place by FIFA’s Social Media Protection Service (SMPS) is staggering and the proactive strategy illustrates how much can be done to protect high profile accounts and global events. We wholeheartedly endorse FIFA’s approach.

There is a lot more work to be done but there are causes for hope that being targeted with discriminatory abuse, fixated threat or having loved ones and colleagues threatened is not just 'part of the game' or 'online life'.
